My intention is to display parts of our universe in somewhat realistic ways, and to display my love and curiosity for the universe. I also wanted to show my love and appreciation I have for the earth and its beauty, that is slowly vanishing with the pollution. I want to show how i view the earth and moon in a close to realistic but also close to imaginary way. The moon is a healing aspect of the the world. I find peace in looking up at the night sky and seeing the moon. The earth provides us a place to live and strive and I respect it for that so I chose to represent that in my painting.
I investigated paintings of the earth and moon for inspiration in my own artwork. I had originally just intended to do a painting of the moon but after I did a painting of the sun and my investigating I decided I wanted to do the earth with the moon in the background. I investigated both realistic and non-realistic paintings, in doing that I found that I liked the look of the more realistic paintings. I liked the look that the non-realistic paintings had but they did not fit with my reasoning for doing these paintings.
I plan to paint realistic pictures of the earth with the moon in orbit next to it on a canvas. I first have to draw out a rough draft on a smaller piece of paper of what I intend to paint. I plan on using acrylic paints on my painting. I plan to have the earth as the main focus in this painting. Due to the fact that the earth is 4 times bigger than the moon, the earth will be in the center of the canvas and the moon will be off to the side.
After I have what I want planned out in a rough draft, I have to get my canvas and draw an outline of pencil on it. Then, I can start painting. I painted the moon first since it is the easiest in details. Then, I painted the earth starting with the green land. After that I painted space and stars around the earth and moon.
I feel like I represented the earth and moon in the exact way I want to, realistic. I feel like the sizing in comparison is off but it still looks good. I think I did a pretty good job in capturing what I wanted. If I could have I would have spent more time on it though, it was kind of rushed. I would go back and do more detail but it all still turned out pretty well.
